Commercial Trucking Insurance

Insurance built by people who actually understand trucking.

Owner-operators, small fleets and new authorities, licensed in 28 states. We place each line of coverage with the market that handles it best — so a claim on one policy never puts the rest of your program at risk.

  • Certificates of insurance in 15 minutes on average — not the next business day.
  • Add or remove units and drivers without waiting on a callback.
  • Lender and shipper requirements handled directly with the carrier.
  • We speak your language — English, Serbian/Bosnian/Croatian, Russian.

Coverages

Every line a motor carrier actually needs

We don't sell one bundled package and call it a day. Each coverage gets placed where it performs best — and we tell you plainly what a policy does and does not do.

🚛

Commercial Auto Liability

Primary liability meeting FMCSA minimums and the higher limits shippers and brokers ask for. Filings (MCS-90, BMC-91X) handled for you.

Required
📦

Motor Truck Cargo

Protects the freight you're hauling. We review exclusions line by line — reefer breakdown, theft, unattended vehicle — before you sign.

Required by most brokers
🛠️

Physical Damage

Your tractor and trailer, on and off dispatch. Deductible structured around what your lender will actually accept.

Lender requirement
🅿️

Non-Trucking Liability

Bobtail coverage for when the truck is off dispatch — the gap that catches leased owner-operators most often.

🏢

General Liability

Premises and operations exposure at your yard, terminal or office. Frequently required on shipper contracts.

🔗

Trailer Interchange

Coverage for trailers you pull under an interchange agreement but don't own.

👷

Workers Comp / Occ-Acc

Statutory comp for employee drivers, or occupational accident for contractors. We'll explain which one your model requires.

⬆️

Excess / Umbrella

Additional limits above your primary auto and general liability when a contract calls for $2M, $5M or more.

📄

Filings & Compliance

New authority, reinstatements, UCR, IFTA support and certificate holders — the paperwork that keeps you rolling.

Who we insure

From your first truck to your fiftieth

Different operations carry different risk. We underwrite the conversation before we shop the market.

01

Owner-operators

Under own authority or leased on. Bobtail, physical damage and occ-acc structured to what the carrier you're leased to actually requires.

02

New authority

First 12 months are the hardest and most expensive. We know which markets will write you and what will get you declined.

03

Small & mid fleets

2–50 power units. Loss-run review, driver criteria, and a renewal strategy that starts 90 days out — not 5 days out.

04

Reefer & dry van

Cargo written with reefer breakdown handled correctly, including continuous-monitoring and pre-trip requirements.

05

Flatbed & step deck

Securement, tarping and over-dimensional loads — coverage that matches how you actually load.

06

Hotshot & box truck

Class 3–5 operations and expedited freight, including non-CDL units that many markets won't touch.

Why Top Gear

An agency that answers the phone

Most carriers lose money on downtime and paperwork, not on premium. That's where we're built to help.

Fast

Certificates in 15 minutes

You shouldn't lose a load waiting on a COI. Request it in the portal or email certificates@topgearig.com — our average turnaround during office hours is 15 minutes.

Split

Coverage across markets

Putting cargo and physical damage with the same carrier looks convenient until you have a claim — then you lose leverage on both. We separate them wherever the market allows.

Fit

Deductibles that clear the lender

We know which lenders accept a $5,000 physical damage deductible and which don't. Getting that wrong costs you a bigger share of premium against your total insured value.

Early

Renewals start 90 days out

We begin remarketing three months ahead with clean loss runs and a full submission — that's how you get real competition on your account.

24/7

Claims support

Report an accident any hour through the portal or claims@topgearig.com. We stay in it with the adjuster until it closes.

Ours

Your language

English, Serbian, Bosnian, Croatian and Russian. Insurance contracts are hard enough in a first language.

How it works

Four steps, no runaround

1

Tell us about the operation

MC/DOT, units, drivers, radius, commodities and current renewal date. Five minutes on the phone or through the form.

2

We build the submission

Loss runs, MVRs, equipment schedule. A complete file gets better pricing than a rushed one — every time.

3

You see the options side by side

Carrier, limits, deductibles, exclusions and total cost. We tell you which one we'd pick and exactly why.

4

Bind & get your documents

Filings submitted, certificates issued, portal access set up the same day. Then we service the account all year.

I can do that. I have Landstar and TQL on file — is this a new one? Send me the broker's name and address, or paste their setup packet and I'll pull it out.

Let's get it on the policy. VIN, year/make, and purchase price — and I'll ask whether your lender needs to be listed as loss payee.
Questions

Straight answers

How fast can I get a certificate of insurance?

Fifteen minutes on average during office hours, and same business day at the latest. Request it through the client portal or email certificates@topgearig.com with the holder's name and address.

I just got my authority. Can you write me?

Yes. New ventures are more limited and more expensive in the first 12 months, but the market exists. What matters most is your driving record, CDL experience, radius of operation and the commodities you plan to haul. Call us before you buy a truck — the equipment you pick affects what you'll pay.

Why do you split cargo and physical damage between different carriers?

Because when both sit with one carrier, a single loss affects your leverage on both lines at renewal, and you lose the option to move one without moving the other. When the market allows, separate placements give you more options at claim time and at renewal. We'll only combine them when it's the last workable option — and we'll tell you when that's the case.

My lender wants a specific deductible. Can you match it?

Usually. Most lenders will approve a $5,000 physical damage deductible, and some cap lower. It matters: the carriers that won't go above $5,000 charge a higher percentage of your total insured value. We check the lender's requirement before we quote, so nothing falls apart at closing.

What happens when I have an accident?

Report it immediately — through the portal, or claims@topgearig.com, day or night. Send photos, the police report number and the other party's information. We file it with the carrier, stay on the adjuster and keep you updated until the file closes.
